I started training at Champions Martial Arts with Mr. Cooke in 1994 at the age of 3 and received my first degree black belt in 2000 at the age of 9 years old. I have competed in many regional and national competitions including the US National Wushu Team Trials in Maryland and the Compete Nationals in Ontario. I have also trained in Jiu Jitsu, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Wrestling, Boxing, and Karate. Being a martial artist has taught me to always strive for growth. It has taught me that self-improvement has no bounds, and that one must remain humble as one improves. My training in the martial arts has given me confidence in my control over my body as well as my ability to deal with difficult situations. Whether difficult business or interpersonal conflicts, the skills that I have learned while studying the martial arts have helped me remain calm while dealing with any conflict. The safe environment and sense of community that Mr. Cooke has created at Champions has been crucial and absolutely invaluable to the development of these skills and the confidence that comes with them. From the moment you step into the studio, you can tell that it is a safe and supportive environment for hard work and growth to take place. To me, there is nothing more rewarding than being a part of the institution that has always had, and continues to have, such a positive influence on my life. Helping someone grow and gain new skills, and having a positive impact on someone’s life is more gratifying than any trophy or medal could ever be.
